Dick Ep.13

Finally the day was drawing to a close, Richard was tying up loose ends when he got a text from one of his homeboys "Stadium?" the message was simple, and the request was quickly accepted "Absolutely" was his response as that devilish grin creped over his face again. It had been a long week and an even longer day; Richard hoped someone would hit him up for some Friday night fun and with that text he knew it was going to be another great night. Now Stadium didn't really get jumping until about 9 or 10pm so Richard knew he still had some time to get in a happy hour before he met up with the boys. Feeling that he needed to let last nights situation breathe Richard hit up an old friend from college that recently moved to the District, they had only known each other in passing at Norfolk State but when she moved to D.C. they happened to chop it up at an alumni event and became pretty tight. "What’s the word?" "You tell me" was her response, Richard loved how Bisi was always down to have a good time. "Happy Hour, you with it?" "Always, where at?" "Lets do Bourbon." "Ok, I can be there by 5:30pm." "Bet, I'll see you then." What Richard learned when he moved to D.C. was that it was much more fun to have single females around than it was to go out with a pack of dudes. He found the guys in D.C. to be hella lame; they tended to focus on looking like they were having fun instead of actually having fun. So Richard had a small group of homies but a pretty large pool of single, semi single, and just don't give a fuck homegirls that were down to hang out whenever. After firing off some emails Richard was good and ready to get the hell out of the door, work had been nothing but a task and after the night he had just experienced his motivation to complete anything was nil. The most pressing issue on Richards mine was did he have enough time to make it home and wash his nuts before going out; he was feeling less than clean after siting in his office with the gravy crotch all day. Sweat, dirt, and leftover pussy was not the most sanitary combination so after checking his emails for the last time Richard b-lined it to the elevator. His plan was to jog home; one because he didn't feel like paying for another ride that would just have him stuck in traffic and two because he hadn't worked out in almost two day and that was sacrilege. Reaching the bottom floor he felt a strange feeling, something seemed odd and when he turned the corner he found out exactly what it was. Hovering over the receptionist desk was a tall, slender white man sporting a charcoal gray suit and glasses; one hand was tightly gripping his briefcase and he was speaking in a very demonstrative tone. "So who else have you been with, who else...?" the man shouted "I bet someone here too, I swear if I find out..." the man stopped as he saw Richard approaching. Kathryn was visibly shaken and as Richard walked closer he could see that the man was holding what looked liked a print of phone records in his other hand, "shit, not today" Richard thought "not today." Though he and Kathryn had shared one reckless night of passion they had never really communicated outside of work, he had never called or texted her, he didn't even have her phone number. This situation was clearly none of Richards’s business and as he walked by Kathryn’s desk he pulled out his phone and began to check imaginary text messages in an effort not to make eye contact. The man hovering over her desk was no doubt her husband and he had every right to be upset with the fact Kathryn was cheating on him but that was neither Richards fault nor his problem. He could feel Kathryn’s stare on the back of his neck as he passed, he knew she was looking at him, he knew she wanted him to come over and address the issue and he also knew that if he did things would only get worse than they already were. Feeling the tension in the air and knowing his wife the man could tell something was up, "are you fucking kidding me?" the man blurted out, "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?" he shouted louder to make sure Richard could hear. "Hey man, hey!" Richard slowed his pace knowing that the man was addressing him. "Do you know my wife?" the man asked as Richard turned around, "Do you know my wife?" the man implored again while pointing in the direction of Kathryn. "Absolutely" Richard answered as he stared the tall, slender man in his eyes "she's the receptionist, how can I not know her?" Richard asked with a look of "you must be stupid" on his face. The tall, slender man didn't speak he just looked at Richard trying to read any form of deception or guile in his face. Richard staring straight through the man could see Kathryn in the background shaking she was so nervous, she knew from stories around the office that Richard didn't really shy away from confrontation and if the situation escalated it would turn out bad for everyone involved. "Is there anything else?" Richards question caught the man off guard "huh" the man answered as Richard retorted with the same aggression the man had displayed with his previous inquiry "Is there anything else?!” Not quite sure what to do the man sat there silent, Richard could tell that he wanted to ask more questions but wasn't prepared for where this Q & A might lead. Being quite tired of this situation Richard once again pulled out his phone, turned around and began to fake text as he walked to the door, he was not about to let someone else's inability to hold their wife's attention ruin his Friday. As Richard reached the front door he slowly turned "Kathryn, call me if you need me", he couldn't help himself; turning back around with a half smile on his face he exited the building and began the jog home.
